Pitt pokes Wildcats out of Big East

The Pitt Panthers (24-7) will play Syracuse Orange (22-11) in the Big East Final tonight at 8 p.m. Bolstered by the exceptional play by their reserves the Panthers defeated the second ranked team in the nation. Bucs slumping

The Bucs spring training record dropped to 6-4 wirth an 8-5 loss to the Minnesota Twins yesterday in Ft. Myers. Pirate Victor Santos gave up 4 runs (all earned) on 7 hits in three innings of work. Pirate bats were largle ineffective when it counted as they left 19 baserunners stranded.

The Pirates have only 2 expected starters batting above .250 this spring, they are Sean Casey (3-for-6) and Jeremy Burnitz (3-for-8).

Zach Duke, Ryan Voglesong, John Grabow, Victor Santos, and Paul Maholm, all expected to make the opening day roster, all have ERA's above 4.50.

Today the Bucs face the Red Sox in Bradenton, with Ryan Vogelsong slated to start against Curt Schilling. Game tiem is at 1:05 p.m.
