Pitt pokes Wildcats out of Big East

The Pitt Panthers (24-7) will play Syracuse Orange (22-11) in the Big East Final tonight at 8 p.m. Bolstered by the exceptional play by their reserves the Panthers defeated the second ranked team in the nation. Bucs slumping The Bucs spring training record dropped to 6-4 wirth an 8-5 loss to the Minnesota Twins yesterday in Ft. Myers. Pirate Victor Santos gave up 4 runs (all earned) on 7 hits in three innings of work. Pirate bats were largle ineffective when it counted as they left 19 baserunners stranded. The Pirates have only 2 expected starters batting above .250 this spring, they are Sean Casey (3-for-6) and Jeremy Burnitz (3-for-8). Zach Duke, Ryan Voglesong, John Grabow, Victor Santos, and Paul Maholm, all expected to make the opening day roster, all have ERA's above 4.50.
