PIRATE FAN FEST FUN
By Magoo
On Saturday I attended the Pirate fan Fest at the David L. Lawrence  Convention Center. There was much to see and do there. There were the macho games such as the hammer smash. There was a radar game to test the speed of your fastball. And you could buy pictures of your favorite Bucco of the past or present. Purchase tickets for the up-coming season. Or participate in a Question and Answer session with the Pirates.

There were two question and answer sessions. One that included owner Kevin McClatchey and GM David Littlefield. The other included a session with several of the Pirates. On that dais were Jason Bay, Jack Wilson, Oliver Perez, Bob Mackowiak, Josh Fogg, Craig Wilson Tike Redman, Sean Burnett, and Kip Wells.

The gents all seemed real relaxed and genuinely happy to be there. In the players Q & A session there were two different kinds of questions asked. Questions that came from adults doing their best to find serious answers to their serious questions. But none were quite like the questions that came from the kids.

During this time the crowd was wowed by the remarks that came from the players especially  the answers that came from Oliver Perez.

Perez asked What would make him want to play Baseball everyday?

 Perez: "Because I love it!"

The crowd loved that answer and applauded him for it.

Craig Wilson: I heard that you entered a perogie eating contest. How many perogies can you eat?

Wilson: "I don't know it depends on how much time I have. But in the contest I ate 19 perogies in 2 minutes."

Yet another young lad asked Perez. Do you think you will get 15 strikeouts in a game this year?

Perez: Hummm... 15 huh...I will try... Perez, then smiled at the boy and pointed at him while saying "And that's for you!"

Josh Fogg was asked. What is the typical training day from October to off like what do you do?

Fogg: As little as possible, said Fogg to the delight of the fans.he paused briefly and went on "Sleep till noon, get up, eat, hang out, eat dinner, go back to sleep."

Mackowiak Why did you change you number to number 3?

I don't know maybe I was a little tired of people saying... Hey, spring training is over or nice number?

Sean Burnett why do you wear your hat crocked?
I don't know I started doing it when I was 11 years old. I got a lot of people asking me about it and so I liked the attention so I kept doing it."

Craig Wilson Why did you get your hair cut?

It was time for it to go. I was getting ready for the new season and donated it to a good cause.

For Bob Mackowiak came this zinger...
I heard that you're going play the bench this year is it true and how do you feel about it?

"I'm going to be playing the Bench? replied Mackowiak. Wow!  Geez, I (Yuck Yuck) don't even know how to answer this question. Ask Lloyd McClendon or David Littlefield that question. I don't know...  Just be happy that you're in the Major Leagues. I don't know... just be ready. You're still on the bench, pinch hit, play later in the game, you'll still get opportunities.

"Thanks for your confidence though."

The crowd loved it! It was a truly funny moment.
